Olive's Nest offers a wide range of original and exclusive gifts and cards, from both local and national artists. We offer an eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary designs.
Olive's Nest has been in my dreams for many years. My idea has always been to create a great space whereby people can come together to learn new skills through craft and purchase gorgeous gifts for their family and home.
We currently do not offer online shopping but are happy to post items to you. Please call 01904 670052 or email us.
Olive's Nest is proud to be part of York's Bishopthorpe Road community, winner of Best British Parade Of Shops, and Great British High Street Of The Year.
I source products for Olive's Nest from local artists and makers to offer a balance. I also select individually suppliers and, wherever possible, gain exclusivity to York.
I am constantly sourcing new products and often only stock one 'run' of items. This keeps the stock fresh and interesting.
Products range in size from pencils to cushions and from greeting cards to up-cycled furniture.
In the future, I plan to offer opportunities to 'Meet the Maker'. Customers will be able to come and meet the artist and discover how their products are made.

Nomnom Chocolaté is a Welsh company: their founder is a Liam, a young person who was granted a Princes Trust Loan to help start up his company. Their website describes themselves as a team of young rascals who conjure and craft the glorious flavours of great British makers and growers and tailor them, by hand, in the fine silks of the world’s greatest cacaos.
Happy Pig Designs, who supply Olive's Nest with beautiful upcycled cashmere products, tell me "the best thing is that Olive’s Nest has helped me launch my products. I have never sold in shops before and in turn this has helped me to develop my packaging and become more customer-focused. People have the opportunity to touch my products and feel the beauty".
Honey Bee Candles tell me, "the best thing I ever did for my candle-making business was to go and talk with Gaynor at Olive’s Nest. I wasn’t sure if there was a real market for beeswax candles, I just knew that I loved making them. Now my business is growing and the feedback I get from Gaynor is really encouraging. Thanks Gaynor for making it a pleasure".
The quote sums up perfectly the environment that Olive’s Nest wishes to create...involving local artists to come and pass on their skills feels just right for being part of the wider community of Bishopthorpe Road.

Having worked with young people for the majority of my career I wanted to combine my experience with young people as well as offering work placements. This is very much in its infancy stage and I am currently applying for funding to ensure that this becomes a reality. A young person who has been on a work placement within Olive’s Nest tells me, "Working/helping with Gaynor has given me the strength and belief to want to find a job and believe more in myself. I look forward to coming into Olive’s Nest as I feel welcome and supported here" Young person aged 17
